PhotoShop Skills #2 - Glow
This is a similar skill to grunge, but the text will appear to be glowing. You will be using Gausian Blur again as well as duplicating layers.

Make a new file in 250 wide by 200 Height. Fill the background layer in with black using the paint bucket.

Select the type tool and type in your name. Choose any font you want - thicker fonts work better for this example. Red looks good for this effect. Select the marquee tool to deselct your text.

Go to Layer menu and select Duplicate Layer... There should now be a background layer, your text layer, and a copy of that text layer.

Change the top text layer to black text by clicking the text tool, selecting the text and changing its color. Don't worry, the red text will go away for a bit, but it is still there.

Using the same techniaues as the grunge skill, select the red text (middle layer), right click on the blue part and select Rasterize Layer.

This should change the icon on the layer and make it editable for you to go on to the next step.

Note: you can not change your text after you rasterize a layer (make it into pixels)

The blending options should NOT be dissolve this time.

The last step, go to the Filter menu and drag down to Blur>Gaussian Blur.

Play with the radius setting until you have the right amount of glow then click OK. A radius of 5.0 is used for the example.
